Mason Rudolph could be ‘sleeper’ second-round pick; Loryn Goodwin drafted by Dallas Wings

Welcome to the Friday edition of our Oklahoma State DieHards morning roundup, where we take you through the biggest headlines around Oklahoma State athletics.

Rudolph, the second-round sleeper?

Former Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph likely won’t crack the top 10 at the 2018 NFL Draft. He could make a team happy in the second round, though, according to Rivals.com’s Mike Farrell.

“He could be the quarterback who doesn’t sniff the first round but ends up playing like a franchise guy,” Farrell wrote of Rudolph. “I have my questions about some areas of his game, mainly his pocket sense, but he could be a very good starter in the NFL.”

Rudolph avoiding a struggling franchise early in the first round could be a blessing in disguise. He could make a valuable backup quarterback for a few seasons with a franchise that has an established starter such as the Patriots or Steelers. Pundits believe Rudolph will have a tough time transitioning to the NFL, so going late to a better franchise could give him the necessary time to develop and become a long-term NFL quarterback.

Loryn Goodwin drafted by Dallas Wings

The Dallas Wings selected Loryn Goodwin with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft. The Wings took the former Cowgirls guard with the sixth pick in the second round on Thursday.

The Wings also selected Connecticut forward Azura Stevens and George Mason center Natalie Butler.

The Big 12 named Goodwin its 2017-18 Newcomer of the Year. She was also an AP and WBCA All-America honorable-mention and unanimous All-Big 12 first-team selection.

Goodwin was the only Cowgirls player taken in the 2018 WNBA Draft.
