The Oklahoma State Board of Regents approved an extension for athletics director Mike Holder, who's led the Cowboys to 49 conference championships and six NCAA championships spanning 11 different sports.

Mike Holder receives extension

Oklahoma State athletics director Mike Holder received a three-year contraction extension on Friday. The Oklahoma State University Board of Regents approved the extension at its meeting in Oklahoma City.

“Coach Holder’s compensation has been well below market for years,” Oklahoma State President Burns Hargis said in a release. “Under his leadership, Oklahoma State is one of the most well-rounded, competitive athletic programs in the country. Mike has led historic improvements in facilities and performance of our athletes and, with this adjustment, his compensation will be more in line with Big 12 athletic directors.”

Holder will earn $950,000 annually through June 30, 2021.

Cowboys 2019 target narrows list

Edmond, Okla., native and 3-star defensive end prospect Trace Ford cut his schools of interest to eight on Friday. The 6-foot-2, 218-pound prospect narrowed his list to Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Cal, Florida State, Harvard and Oregon.

Oklahoma State’s been one of the front-runners to land the 2019 target. He’s also visited the likes of nearby Arkansas and Baylor, which will challenge the Cowboys for Ford.
