STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State football plans to turn the spring game into a major recruiting event, according to head coach Mike Gundy.
Current players, former players, recruits and everyone’s family will be on hand after the spring game for a fun-filled day with food and fun. Some former Cowboys might even see their pro football dreams come true, as the 2018 NFL Draft’s third day happens at the same time.
“Official visits, unofficial visits, food, festivities, it’s almost like a state fair for the most part,” Gundy said. “We feel like that will be good for what we’re looking for this year. Things have moved around based on our new recruiting calendar.”
The recruiting event will take place in the Sherman E. Smith Training Center. However, there will be plenty for fans to do as well in and around the stadium.
Fans will be treated to inflatables and face painting, just like years prior. They will also be able to get autographs after the game. Most importantly, this will be the world’s first glimpse at the 2018 Oklahoma State Cowboys.
“We’re not having a concert or anything,” Gundy said, clearly poking fun at Oklahoma’s plan to host a Trace Adkins concert.
A reporter then reminded Gundy of his and the university’s relationship with country music superstar and alumnus Garth Brooks.
“I used to have his numbers – I still do, I guess – but I haven’t dialed in a while,” Gundy said. “You could definitely get a sellout. Heck, maybe even make some money on ticket sales.”
Oklahoma State will host its 2018 “Orange Blitz” spring game on April 28 at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Okla.
