Oklahoma State is expected to challenge for the Big 12 title this season.
With good reason, at least if ESPN.com’s list of the top 50 players nationally is any indication.
The Cowboys’ talented pitch-and-catch team of quarterback Mason Rudolph and wide receiver James Washington ranks among ESPN’s top 20 players.
Rudolph is No. 12 nationally as the second highest-ranked Big 12 player in the country behind Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield.
And Washington’s production makes him an easy choice as the second-ranked receiver in the poll. He trails only No. 18 Calvin Ridley of Alabama.
Washington already has notched back-to-back receiving seasons and a dozen 100-yard receiving outings during his career.
The Cowboys rank among six teams nationally with two top-20 selections. Others include Florida State, Penn State, LSU, Alabama and Clemson.
The 19-member panel named four Big 12 players among its top 50, including Oklahoma tackle Orlando Brown at 39th.
