Mike Gundy’s 2019 recruiting class got just a little bit deeper on Friday evening. Three-star Steele (Cibolo, Texas) High School cornerback Xavier Player committed to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, just two days after they offered him a scholarship.

Oklahoma State was Player’s first Power 5 offer, coming after the 6-foot, 170-pound corner turned in an impressive showing at Oklahoma State’s “The Show” camp on Monday. Player formed a formidable cornerback tandem at Steele with JayVeon Caldwell, an Oklahoma State signee in the Class of 2018.
Oklahoma State offered Player along with 3-star safety Jonathan McGill, who also has a former teammate signed by the Cowboys in Gabe Lemons. Player collected 37 tackles, 9 passes defensed and 2 interceptions in his junior season for Steele, helping it to a state quarterfinal appearance.
247Sports composite rates Player as a consensus 3-star prospect, ranking him as the No. 149 cornerback, No. 211 player in the state of Texas and the No. 1,484 player nationally. Player is now the eighth commitment in Oklahoma State’s 2019 class and the second cornerback, joining 3-star Demarco Jones of Tulsa.
