If CBS Sports’ latest 2018 NFL mock draft is anything like the real draft, Oklahoma fans won’t have to wait beyond Day 1 to see three Sooners be taken off the board.
Oklahoma offensive tackle Orlando Brown wouldn’t say if he’s made up his mind on forgoing his senior season, but if he does, CBS Sports writer Chris Trapasso expects Brown to be taken No. 3 overall to the New York Giants.
“I’m not convinced the Giants are ready to move on from Eli Manning,” Trapasso wrote in his latest mock draft. “Because of that thought, in this mock, New York addresses the offensive tackle spot with Brown, the enormous but athletic left tackle from Oklahoma. He’ll immediately help the Giants run game and serve as a quality pass-protector.”
Brown would join former Sooners receiver Sterling Shepard in New York and get to block for a Super Bowl champion-winning quarterback.
Senior linebacker Ogbonnia Okoronkwo is the next Sooner off the board at No. 18 to the Green Bay Packers. Okoronkwo has impressed this season as one of the few bright spots for Oklahoma’s defense.
The last Sooner taken in CBS Sports’ latest mock draft is Heisman frontrunner and senior quarterback Baker Mayfield. Trapasso has Mayfield going to the New Orleans Saints with the No. 30 overall pick. Learning under Drew Brees wouldn’t be a bad way for Mayfield to start his professional career.
