ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit believes Baker Mayfield is the best quarterback on the board in the 2018 NFL Draft.
On a teleconference ahead of the draft next week, Herbstreit said the reigning Heisman winner is his top-ranked passer because of his accuracy, decision-making and college production. He said he believes that if Mayfield were taller, NFL teams would be going wild at the chance to draft him.

Mayfield has consistently been ranked as one of the top four quarterback prospects in this draft class, and he’s a popular projection to the New York Jets at No. 3 overall. One of the only marks against him is his height. He measured 6 feet, 5/8 inches tall at the NFL combine.
However, Herbstreit made the popular comparison between Mayfield and Drew Brees, another short quarterback who came out of a pass-happy spread offense in college.
Kirk Herbstreit on Baker Mayfield: "He reminds me of a young Drew Brees coming out of Purdue."

Wyoming’s Josh Allen has repeatedly been linked to the Cleveland Browns at No. 1, and USC’s Sam Darnold is the common pick among analysts as the No. 1 quarterback in the class. However, Herbstreit thinks Mayfield’s performance in college makes him the best of the group.
The ESPN analyst will be part of ESPN’s draft coverage when Mayfield’s name is finally called on Thursday, April 26.
