Oklahoma football: What Lincoln Riley said after the spring game
NORMAN, Okla. — Here’s what Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley had to say on Saturday following the Sooners’ spring game.
On Bob Stoops saying Lincoln Riley will have a statue next to his one day:
“I’m just going to try to make it to year two. I just got through my first spring game.”
On the playing elements:
“It was challenging. It was similar to the Kansas game this year. Into the wind, there were parts of the field you couldn’t throw to … We did some decent things throwing in it. We’re used to it.”
On injuries:
“We’ll look at Trey Sermon. We’ll evaluate it further, but I don’t think it’s serious.”
On the quarterback competition between Kyler Murray and Austin Kendall:
“Austin really settled in the last half of spring and has played really well.”
On the play of Oklahoma’s defense:
“I saw some guys step up. I didn’t see any guys out there who were hesitant.”
What Murray and Kendall need to do heading into the summer:
“Just continue to grow. We have a ton to evaluate from the spring … It’s a process and we’re in the middle of it right now.”
On offensive lineman Cody Ford:
“I’ve been really happy with the way Cody Ford has played. He’s looked good at tackle and we might very well keep him there … We didn’t anticipate that he’d do so well there.”
On running back Kennedy Brooks:
“He has a unique running style. Smooth. You can tell what he does well.”
On running back T.J. Pledger:
“T.J. Pledger was nicked up just enough to hold him out. But he’s had a really productive spring.”
On building the spring game into an event:
“It’s been awesome. It’s one thing after another. It’s a lot. We have big plans for it. I think you can build a lot on what you can potentially do with this weekend … We’re off to a great start.”
