Oregon’s women’s basketball team didn’t reach the Final Four last season, as hoped, but members of that Ducks squad still did manage to win a national championship. A squad of four Oregon players won USA Basketball’s 3-on-3 national championship in April.
And now that group—Erin Boley, Oti Gildon, Ruthy Hebard and Sabrina Ionescu—will be competing for an even bigger prize after USA Basketball named it as the U.S. representative of the 2018 FIBA 3-on-3 World Cup.
The FIBA 3-on-3 World Cup is scheduled for June 8-12 in Manilla, Philippines. Team USA won gold on the women’s side in 2012 and 2014 and earned a bronze medal in the 2016 competition.
Boley, Gildon and Ionescu have prior international experience with USA Basketball. Boley earned a silver medal with Team USA at the 2015 FIBA 3-on-3 U18 World Cup, Hebard won silver at the 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup and gold at the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship and Ionescu has gold medals as part of the 2014 FIBA U17 World Cup and 2013 FIBA Americas U16 teams.
