Maine’s men’s basketball program is one of the least successful in Division I, having won just 24 games in the past four seasons. The school needed to do something different to get things turned around and did so by hiring former Maine women’s coach Richard Barron.
Barron has continued the program’s outside-the-box decisions, adding Edniesha Curry as an assistant coach. A former Oregon women’s basketball standout, Curry is the only female full-time assistant for a men’s team in Division I.
The 2018-19 coaching staff is set.

Curry played for Oregon in 2001-02, helping the Ducks win the WNIT title. She was drafted into the WNBA in 2002 and played four seasons in that league before finishing her career overseas. Since 2010 she has coached in various capacities, including from 2015-17 when she was an assistant player development coach under Barron with the Maine women’s team.
