The start of the college football season is approaching, which means preseason polls and All-America teams are being rolled out.
Sports Illustrated released its preseason All-America teams on Wednesday. Oregon had one representative: running back Royce Freeman, who was named a second-team preseason All-American.
Freeman had a somewhat down junior season, rushing for 945 yards on 168 carries and 9 touchdowns while being slowed by injuries. This was after a sophomore campaign in which he posted a 283-1,836-17 line and was one of the most productive tailbacks in the country.
He’s looking to have a bounce-back senior season with new coach Willie Taggart at the helm.
Other Pac-12 players who were voted to SI’s first team: Washington State’ guard Cody O’Connell, USC linebacker Cameron Smith, Washington linebacker Azeem Victor, and Utah punter Mitch Wishnowsky.
USC quarterback Sam Darnold and Washington running back Myles Gaskin were named to the second team.
