Incoming Oregon freshman Abu Kigab posted a double-double as Canada beat Italy 79-60 in the men’s FIBA U19 World Cup championship.
Kigab had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the game Sunday in Cairo, Egypt. He finished the tournament averaging 14.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.
The 4-star small forward, who grew up in Canada and played for Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif., committed to Oregon in October. He was ranked by ESPN as the No. 30 forward in the Class of 2017.
He will be the latest Canadian to play in Eugene, as Oregon coach Dana Altman seemingly has a pipeline there. Last season alone, the Ducks had Dillon Brooks, Chris Boucher and Dylan Ennis from up north.
With several key components of Oregon’s Final Four squad jumping to the NBA, Kigab could see significant playing time in his freshman season.
Here are some of Kigab’s highlights.
