Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota — whose Tennessee Titans are preparing to face the New England Patriots in the playoffs on Saturday — dished out some praise for Tua Tagovailoa, the Alabama backup quarterback who stepped in and led the Crimson Tide to the national championship against Georgia on Monday.

The full transcript of Mariota’s comments Tuesday on Tagovailoa:
“He’s a stud. He’s the next guy coming up. I’m proud of him. From where that kid’s come and how he’s grown and how he handled the situation last night was very impressive. He’s a special player and hopefully he can continue his success.”
Mariota and Tagovailoa both attended Saint Louis High School in Hawaii, which is where their shared roots originate.
Tagovailoa came off the bench to toss for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime, against the Bulldogs to win the CFP National Championship Game — something his fellow Hawaiian did not accomplish.
Of course, Mariota did win the Heisman Trophy. Will Tagovailoa match that feat?
