Earlier Friday, 2018 No. 1 overall recruit Marvin Bagley III was rumored to consider reclassifying to 2017, making him eligible to play in the upcoming season.
According to AZ Central’s Richard Obert, the 5-star recruit’s father, Marvin Bagley Jr., responded to the story of his son playing college basketball this season.
“LOL!!! You guys are too funny. You should ask whoever started the rumor. They seem to know more than we do,” Bagley Jr. said in a text message to Obert.
This doesn’t close the book for the prized recruit to play college basketball in 2018 rather than this year, because Bagley Jr. didn’t specifically deny the rumor.
Bagley III is considering Duke, Kentucky, USC and Arizona and plans to take official visits to each school. Standing at 6-foot-10, Bagley III is expected to be a top pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
