Even though high school football players in the 2019 recruiting class cannot sign national letters of intent for another eight months, 25 percent of the top 100 prospects in 247Sports’ composite rankings have committed to a school for next year.
Only one of those pledged recruits has done so to a Pac-12 school — 4-star quarterback Dylan Morris, the No. 85 player who committed to Washington last July.
But if 247Sports’ Crystal Ball predictions are any indication, the Pac-12 appears to be the top destination for a good chunk of the uncommitted top-100 players. As of Monday, there were 16 uncommitted top-100 prospects who have a Pac-12 team listed as either the favorite or co-favorite, including five of the 21 uncommitted 5-star recruits.
USC is listed as the favorite or co-favorite for nine top-100 players, most notably No. 1 overall player Kayvon Thibodeaux. The Trojans are the choice of 13 of 14 predictions made by 247Sports experts for the 6-foot-5, 235-pound defensive end from Thousand Oaks, Calif., with LSU receiving the other pick.
Thibodeaux has 28 scholarship offers, with USC making its offer in May 2016. He is just starting to visit schools, and is scheduled to hit Oregon, Alabama and Florida State on unofficial trips this month.
UCLA is favored or co-favored to sign three uncommitted top-100 players, the highest-rated being 5-star linebacker Henry To’oto’o. The Bruins are co-favorites with USC for 4-star cornerback Mykael Wright, who is ranked No. 45 overall.
Washington is favored to get the commitment of 4-star wide receiver Joe Ngata, who plays for the same high school in California (Folsom) where Huskies quarterback Jake Browning set national touchdown records as a prep standout. They’re also the co-favorite for two other players, including 4-star running back Austin Jones, with Stanford the other favorite for Jones.
The other Pac-12 team favored to sign a top-100 player is Utah, which is the choice of the lone prediction made on 4-star offensive tackle Enokk Vimahi from Hawaii.
Oregon’s best shot at a top-100 player at this point, according to Crystal Ball predictions, is for 4-star cornerback Jeremiah Criddel. Of the 11 picks made, five each are for the Ducks and Washington with the other prediction for UCLA.
Pac-12 schools signed 15 of the top 100 players from the 2018 class. Eight inked with USC, three signed with Washington, two with UCLA and one each to Stanford and Oregon.
