From Ben White of 247sports:
Despite new interest, Arizona remains a front runner as the coaching staff paid Williams an in-home visit this past week to better articulate its roster plans moving forward.
“Everyone knows that they’re going to go down the grad transfer route to help complete the roster,” Williams’ stepfather Chris Wright said. “They’re looking at Devonaire Doutrive from Birmingham. Sean and Mark (Phelps) both visited him on the same night as Brandon.
“They’re trying to get him in and obviously, some grad transfers. James Akinjo is another name that the coaches expressed to us. The roster is going to be assembled even though everyone keeps talking about how they have zero commitments.”
The report also indicates that Oregon, Gonzaga and Arizona State are among Williams’ top candidates.
“Brandon is going to go where the best fit is,” Wright said. “As of today, Oregon and Gonzaga will probably get a visit when the time comes. Arizona State is also a prime opportunity because most of those guards are gone…Colorado will be visiting this upcoming Monday and Oregon will follow on Tuesday. We’re taking things slowly and just evaluating all of the options.”
Williams, who is Encino, Calif., withdrew his original commitment to Arizona after the Sean Miller scandal broke out last month.
“When Sean spoke to me after that news broke surrounding the latest allegation, there was no doubt in my mind that it didn’t take place,” Wright said. “But I will tell you that it gave us time to step back and just re-evaluate everything … Brandon’s love for Arizona had him consumed. Now that we’ve taken the step, we’re going through this recruiting process with an open mind. He had to take the love out of Arizona and just realize what’s going on in the entire NCAA landscape.”
