USC quarterback Sam Darnold is one of 85 college football players on the 2017 Maxwell Award watch list. The Maxwell Award is presented to the best college player in the nation every year.
Eleven Pac-12 players made the watch list, including two from each of the Washington schools. Arizona, Utah and Cal are the only schools in the conference to not have a player listed.
The last Pac-12 player to receive the prestigious award was Marcus Mariota in 2014, the same year the former Oregon quarterback won the Heisman Trophy. Only one other Pac-12 player, Stanford’s Andrew Luck in 2011, has won the Maxwell Award since 1982.
Semifinalists for the award will be revealed Oct. 30, and the three finalists will be announced on Nov. 20. The winner will be named on Dec. 7.
