Swedish forward Kenechukwu Chukwuka has verbally committed to Pittsburgh, he announced on Twitter, Tuesday afternoon.
The 6-foot-9 Chukwuka played his freshman season at New Mexico Junior College and will have three seasons left of eligibility entering 2017-18.
“Kene can really kick and pop. He can really shoot the 3-pointer and he played about 15 minutes a game for us last year,” New Mexico Junior College coach Brian Lohrey told PGH Sports Now. “The second half of the season for him was better than the first. He simply needed to get used to the game here in America.”
The forward had also had an offer from New Mexico, per PGH Sports Now. Nebraska, Arkansas, Iowa State, Fresno State, UTEP and Tulsa were also interested in Chukwuka, according to the report.
Chukwuka is the ninth player to join Pittsburgh’s 2017 recruiting class.
