When Stanford running back Bryce Love opted to return for his senior season with the Cardinal, he immediately inserted himself as the Heisman Trophy frontrunner.
Love is considered the best player in college football by many, but Sports Illustrated thinks the Stanford running back is No. 2.
Sports Illustrated completed its top 100 college football players in 2018 series on Thursday. Love was ranked No. 2, one spot behind top-ranked Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver.
“Love is a 5-foot-10, 196-pound burner with the big-play pop and carry-to-carry consistency to deliver a prolific season to follow up the one that included a Power 5–leading 2,118 rushing yards on 8.05 yards per carry and 19 rushing touchdowns,” Sports Illustrated’s Chris Johnson and Eric Single wrote.
Love was plagued last season by an ankle injury. He enters 2018 healthy and motivated to have another stellar season. The running back will be Stanford’s catalyst.
