As the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA tournament, Stanford was supposed to have an easy road through the regionals. Instead it’s been anything but for the Cardinal.
A solo home run by Cal State-Fullerton freshman Jace “Jumbo” Chamberlain — who entered the game without a homer all season — banged off the scoreboard in right-center field in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Fullerton a 2-1 win over Stanford late Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif.
Stanford (45-11) needed 13 innings to beat Wright State 4-3 in the opening game on Friday then managed only 6 hits against Fullerton, a team it swept at home earlier in the season.
This all comes down to the offense.
Stanford has allowed 5 runs in 23 innings in the postseason.

The Cardinal will play Baylor at 1 p.m. PT Sunday in an elimination game, with the winner facing Fullerton afterward. Stanford would need to win three games, including twice against Fullerton, to advance to the super regionals.
