With quarterbacks K.J. Costello and Davis Mills sidelined with injuries, Jack Richardson seized the opportunity as the only healthy passer for the Stanford Cardinal.
Richardson gained the respect of his coaches and teammates with a successful spring. ESPN named the backup quarterback as one of the 25 breakout players from spring ball. The junior quarterback was No. 14 on the list.
“He was more than serviceable, as he impressed his coaches enough to go from walk-on to earning a scholarship at the end of spring,” ESPN’s Edward Aschoff said of Richardson.
In the unlikely event that Costello and Mills both go down with injuries, Stanford has gained some confidence in Richardson to fill in. More importantly, receiving a college scholarship is Richardson’s biggest accomplishment this spring.
