Stanford swimmer Simone Manuel is the nation’s top women’s collegiate athlete.
Manuel won the 2018 Honda Cup as the country’s best college women’s athlete. The senior received the award Monday night in Los Angeles. She is the fourth Stanford Cardinal woman in history to win the award.
Manuel is a 14-time NCAA champion, including six national titles at the 2018 NCAA Championships. She finished her decorated Stanford career with six American records, seven NCAA records and seven Stanford records.
Perhaps Manuel’s biggest career achievement to date came at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where she became the first African-American woman to win an individual Olympic gold medal (100-meter freestyle) in a swimming event. Manuel has two Olympic gold medals and two silvers.
