There’s only a few Saturdays left until college football will return and mascots will once again patrol the sidelines. So with that in mind, Sports Illustrated went ahead and ranked the top college football mascots, with Otto the Orange from Syracuse football being the lone rep from the ACC on the list.
“He’s a fruit! In a hat! A fruit with legs!” wrote SI’s Joan Niesen. “Otto first and foremost should make you thankful all other fruit lack legs, as he seems like he’d be hard to wrangle and eat. That said, his spot on this list is a result of sheer novelty. Even I struggle to fear him. There’s a sneaky level of depravity here, though: Otto is one of three mascots on this list who might cannibalize his own kind at a tailgate.”
Otto the Orange has been the Syracuse mascot since 1980.
