Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports.com has picked the West Virginia Mountaineers to cover the 13.5 spread, but TCU to win outright.
Fornelli has the final score at 34-28.
Fornelli makes an interesting point about Will Grier and Kenny Hill. He doesn’t fully trust Hill yet, and thinks that Grier is the better quarterback.
On some levels, this makes sense. Grier has only lost one football game by one touchdown in his college career, and Hill is infamously mercurial.
Hill has seemingly turned it around, though. His completion percentage is up a monstrous ten percent from last year, and a revamped running game means Hill doesn’t have to do everything by himself. Even without Kyle Hicks, TCU’s star rusher, the Horned Frogs are one of the top running teams in the nation.
Grier is no slouch either, and even though he’s not playing at a Heisman level yet, he very well could be very soon. The Mountaineers have only played one team of consequence this season so far, Virginia Tech, in the opening game of the year. They lost that game, but the rust fell from Grier, and in the second half he started putting it together.
We’ll see how far Grier has come, but it’s definitely possible for West Virginia to keep this game close if he plays perfectly. He’s a good quarterback, and we’ll get to see how good on Saturday.
