The folks over at Athlon Sports predict breakout years for several TCU players, as Horned Frogs filled 11 spots of the four Athlon All-Big 12 preseason teams.
TCU placed the fourth-most players on Athlon’s list. Oklahoma lead the way with 15 Sooners making a team, followed by Oklahoma State at 14 and West Virginia with 12.
KaVontae Turpin appeared in three different spots on Athlon’s teams. The speedy athlete made the first team as a punt returner and the second team as a kick returner, and also appeared on the second team as a wide receiver.
Ben Banogu contributed the other first team appearance for TCU. The senior defensive end briefly flirted with entering the NFL draft, but will return to college to wreak havoc on opposing offenses.
Linebacker Ty Summers earned a spot on the second team. Summers was named to the preseason watch list for the Lott IMPACT Trophy on Tuesday, which honors the nation’s top defensive player in terms of impact on and off the field.
Niko Small and Darius Anderson both made Athlon’s third team. Small is a safety that will be the senior presence in the secondary for the Horned Frogs. Anderson, a junior, will step into the feature back role for TCU, replacing Kyle Hicks.
Jalen Reagor made two appearances on fourth teams, one as a wide receiver and one as a kick returner. Tackle Lucas Niang also made the fourth team, as did defensive lineman Ross Blacklock.
