TCU and SMU will face off in football on a Friday night for the second time in three years this season.
TCU athletics announced Tuesday the Battle for the Iron Skillet has been moved to Friday, Sept. 7. It was previously scheduled for Sept. 8. The official kickoff time and broadcast information will be announced later. The game will be played at SMU.
The last game the Horned Frogs played the Mustangs in Dallas, in 2016, was also on a Friday night. TCU won that matchup 33-3.
This year’s game will also provide an intriguing matchup between veteran TCU coach Gary Patterson and new SMU coach Sonny Dykes, who served as an offensive analyst for the Horned Frogs last season.
The date change will give TCU an extra day to rest and prepare for its matchup with Ohio State on Sept. 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. However, it will mean a short week of preparation after TCU’s season opener against Southern on Sept. 1.
TCU leads the all-time series against SMU 50-40-7. The Frogs have won six straight against the Mustangs and 10 of the past 11, including a 56-36 win last season.
