The TCU men’s and women’s basketball teams will travel to Australia for a series of exhibition games before the fall semester begins.
Jimmy Burch of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the teams will play games in Sydney and Melbourne from Aug. 5-16. Both teams will be allowed 10 practices to prepare for the games before they venture to Australia.
The trip has been in the works for several months and will provide men’s coach Jamie Dixon and women’s coach Raegan Pebley with a valuable opportunity to spread the TCU brand across Australia.
TCU’s men’s roster features two Australian players for the 2017-18 season: redshirt freshman forward Kouat Noi of Newcastle and freshman forward Lat Mayen of Adelaide. The women have sophomore forward Ella Hellessey from Dromona on the roster.
Dixon said the trip will allow the team to build some momentum heading into 2017. Dixon’s group will return all five starters, and its six leading scorers, from last season’s 24-15 team that won the NIT championship.
TCU’s women’s team notched a 12-18 record last season.
“We are going to seize every advantage this trip provides our team on and off the court,” Pebley said.
And it’s not a bad way to spend the last few days of summer before school starts, either.
