A familiar name is joining TCU’s coaching staff.
TCU announced Abi Olajuwon will join coach Raegan Pebley’s staff as an assistant.
Olajuwon played at Oklahoma in college. She spent two seasons in the WNBA with the Tulsa Shock and Chicago Sky before beginning her coaching career in 2014. And yes, she’s the daughter of former Houston Rockets star Hakeem Olajuwon.
Olajuwon joins the Frogs’ staff after assistant-coaching stints with Cal State Fullerton and Eastern Michigan.
“I’m thankful to Coach Pebley and the whole TCU staff for the opportunity,” Olajuwon said in a release. “To be apart of the Frog Family and to be back in the Big 12 is a dream come true. I’m excited about Coach Pebley’s vision for TCU women’s basketball and ready to help continue the success that was accomplished last season.”
Olajuwon was a major contributor to two Final Four teams at Oklahoma. The former Sooner will be instrumental in developing the Horned Frogs’ post players, says Pebley. She also has experience as a recruiting coordinator with Eastern Michigan.
“She comes to TCU with an established commitment and belief in our culture, as well as being mentored by coaches we hold in high esteem,” Pebley said in a release. “… We are excited about the impact coach Olajuwon can have on our program.”
