Former Texas Tech star Patrick Mahomes became the first first-round rookie quarterback to take the field for the Chiefs in 34 years during Kansas City’s first preseason game against San Francisco on Friday.
From his first play, Mahomes made the Chiefs front office look smart for trading up to select him, completing a 41-yard pass to Demarcus Robinson (which was, however, called back for holding).
It took another quarter for Mahomes to find the end zone, when he lobbed a 1-yard play-action pass to wide receiver Marcus Kemp in the third.
Mahomes finished 7 for 9 for 49 yards and a touchdown as the Chiefs fell 27-17. Check out every throw from his first professional outing below.
Nice work, @PatrickMahomes5.
