If Nic Shimonek is flying under the radar, he might not be for longer.
If he beats Houston, he’ll be on the radar of many. He’s already on the radar of NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger, a former NFL offensive lineman himself.
The best quarterback in college that no one is talking about is Nic Shimonek at Texas Tech.Don't take my word for it, ask Pat Mahomes

Shimonek has been absolutely burning up passing statistics, and he’s had one less game than most other quarterbacks. If he can take the Red Raiders to an upset victory over Houston, he’ll be well on his way to being a national name.
If Texas Tech goes 3-0 in nonconference play, it will literally surprise the nation, and it might set up a very interesting matchup with Oklahoma State in Lubbock. However, you have to beat the Houston Cougars first, and defensive tackle Ed Oliver is not a guy that you take lightly. The Cougars are extremely talented, even by Power 5 standards, and have been a scourge to teams that recent history says should beat them.
All in all, Shimonek has had an extremely strong, efficient start, albeit against weaker competition. Saturday will be the first opportunity he gets to test his mettle, and we’ll see if he really does have that special spark that many are saying he has.
