Ogden left Texas Tech to become Texas-Arlington’s new head coach on Friday. His departure allows Burg to get his first chance as an assistant coach with a major-conference program.
Moving on up
Burg, a native of Houston, started his coaching career at Lake Erie College as a graduate assistant.
He spent a season as an assistant at both Garden City Community College and Western Texas College before. He then took over as Middle Tennessee State’s director of basketball operations.
After two seasons at Middle Tennessee State, Burg earned his first assistant-coaching job at the Division I level at Campbell University in 2009.
He left Campbell in 2013 for a similar role at North Carolina Central and then coached a season at Little Rock during the 2015-16 season before taking a position at Texas Tech.
