Texas Tech didn’t land a player on Athlon Sports’s first-team All-Big 12 offense. In a move that might surprise those unfamiliar with the Red Raiders’ returning defensive forces, they did land a pair on the defensive side of the All-Big 12 first team.

The pair is Dakota Allen and Jah’Shawn Johnson, two names the Red Raiders faithful are sure to have guessed.
Allen, who had 101 tackles, 2 interceptions and 2 sacks during the 2017 season, is an obvious choice. The senior returned to Texas Tech last season and made an immediate impact, registering three double-digit tackle games.
Johnson, a hard-hitting safety, has been making plays since 2015, and was named team captain before the 2017 season.
Also making Athlon Sports’ list on the defensive side of the ball were Eli Howard and Justus Parker on the second team and Jordyn Brooks and Damarcus Fields in the honorable mention section.
On the offensive side of the ball, lineman Jack Anderson is listed on the second team and wide receiver T.J. Vasher is on the third team.
