Mohamed Bamba will by all accounts go in the lottery of the 2018 NBA Draft in June, but experts aren’t quite sure just where he’ll land.
CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish predicted the former Texas star to be taken with the No. 7 pick by the Chicago Bulls. Chicago has plenty of talent on the roster, but could use a stud big man.
“Bamba, at worst, projects as a menace on the defensive end of the court — where his 7-9 wingspan should allow him to alter shots at an elite level and rebound well,” Parrish wrote. “But he’s not just a defensive player. There’s also potential on the offensive end — even if it’s a work in progress, at the moment.”
Bamba set the all-time Longhorns record for blocks in a season by swatting away 111 shots in his lone season at Texas. And as far as his offensive game, he’s been working with the same coach that teaches Philadelphia star Joel Embiid, so Bamba is aware of where he needs to improve.
Most experts have Bamba going in the high middle of the lottery. The Ringer projected the Grizzlies to take him at No. 4, for example. Wherever he lands will be getting a dynamic shot blocker and a potential stretch big man — if he can follow through on Embiid’s example.
