The Texas Longhorns are taking their show on the road — and not just to opposing football stadiums.
Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte will traverse across the Lone Star State on the “This Is Texas Tour.” The tour will promote an “open dialogue” between the university and its fans from the plains of West Texas to the Gulf Coast.
“I think we should be out every year,” Del Conte said, according to Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman. “We should be out amongst our fans, donors, alumni and potential students every year. We used to have Longhorn club meetings around the state. As things evolved and changed, we need to make a concerted effort to go around the state and talk about what it means to be a Longhorn.”
The tour kicks off with the Texas spring game on Saturday, April 21. Head football coach Tom Herman is expected to be at most, if not all, stops, according to Davis.
Del Conte and Herman will first hit Midland on April 24, followed by a trip to Amarillo on April 25. The tour resumes with stops in Dallas (May 8), Fort Worth (May 9), Corpus Christi (May 14), San Antonio (May 15), Houston (May 16), the Rio Grande Valley (May 21) and Tyler (May 23). All events run from 6-8 p.m. CT, and tickets are available at TexasExes.org.
The tour won’t be just about football. Del Conte says all aspects of the university will be showcased at each event.
““Here’s our admissions. Here’s our great university. And the Texas Exes, they talk about keeping everyone together,” Del Conte said, according to Davis.
