Since taking over in Austin following the 2016 season, Tom Herman has aimed to transform the Texas Longhorns into a tough, physical football team.
That was quite apparent in 2017, as defensive coordinator Todd Orlando led the Longhorns to their first respectable defense in recent memory. To reach that point, though, it has to start in practice, and unsurprisingly, the pads are popping there, as well.
The proof is in this hard-hitting hype video:

Despite losing the likes of Malik Jefferson, DeShon Elliott, Poona Ford and Holton Hill to the NFL, the early returns indicate Texas’ defense should be quite imposing in 2018, as well. That’s to be expected with names such as Gary Johnson, Malcolm Roach and Breckyn Hager manning the front seven.
However, with Herb Hand now in the mix as the Longhorns new offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator, the hope for the ‘Horns is that some of that notable physicality translates to the other side of the ball.
As seen above, those are hard-hitting habits Texas hopes to instill throughout the spring and on into next season.
The Longhorns spring game is set for Saturday, April 21.
