Thompson has spent the last three seasons as an assistant on the Texas staff, but is no stranger to the spotlight.
She’s the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, and a four-time WNBA Champion. She was recently inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the 2018 class. Thompson is arguably one of the best women to ever play the game of basketball.
While Thompson was at Texas, the Longhorns went 84-21, winning exactly 80 percent of their games. Virginia will be Thompson’s first crack at being a head coach.
