Texas wasn’t exactly a dominant passing team during the 2017 season. The Longhorns had two starting quarterbacks over the year, and neither completed over 65 percent of their passes.
So far, Tom Herman is liking what he sees out of his two young quarterbacks, Sam Ehlinger and Shane Buechele, according to Jeff Howe of 247 Sports.
“It was the best we’d thrown the football consistently around here for a while. We had a lot of explosive plays on offense,” said Herman.
“I thought the quarterbacks made the right reads and were really accurate and on-time.”
While spring football is a time for optimism and everyone is generally high on their team, it’s a good sign that the Texas quarterbacks are performing well. If the Longhorns are going to regain their status as one of the perennial contenders for Big 12 titles, they’ll need the offense to have a better year. That should improve with greater offensive line depth and a pair of quarterbacks that are still coming of age.
