Former UCLA coach Jim Mora is still attempting to explain his bizarre comments about Josh Rosen.
Mora appeared on the NFL Network on Monday and tried to clarify prior comments he thinks have been misconstrued.
“I believe I’ve been very complimentary towards Josh Rosen. I don’t think I’ve made a statement in the negative about him,” Mora said on NFL Network. “Do I think he’s the best QB in the draft? No. I think he’s the best player in the draft.”
One would think Mora’s allegiances lie with Rosen since he was his quarterback for three years at UCLA. Yet Mora has been going around saying that the Cleveland Browns should draft USC quarterback Sam Darnold with the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Mora said Darnold has a more suitable “mentality” to be in Cleveland.
In Mora’s multiple explanations examining the quarterbacks, the former Bruins coach says he believes the New York Giants or Jets would be a better landing spot for Rosen because of the quarterback’s personality.
Does Mora have an ulterior motive?
DieHards said on Monday that Mora could be trying to persuade the Browns to draft Darnold in an attempt to keep Rosen out of Cleveland. Cleveland has been a repulsive place for quarterbacks. The Browns have had 27 starting quarterbacks since 1999 and have a 1-31 record in the last two seasons.
Mora might be campaigning for Rosen to be drafted elsewhere to save him from Cleveland. It’s plausible that this could be a case of reverse psychology.
