UCLA basketball coach Steve Alford cleared up confusion surrounding the firing of assistant coach David Grace.
According to the Los Angeles Times’ Ben Bolch, Alford released a statement saying that he met with UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero after the basketball season and asked Guerrero if he had authorization to make adjustments to his coaching staff. Guerrero approved Alford’s request which then led to his decision to fire Grace.
Alford’s statement comes on the heels of Grace’s perplexing admission that he heard two different stories from Alford and Guerrero about his firing.
UCLA went ahead and hired Murry Bartow to replace Grace in what’s been a rocky transition.
It seems as though Alford is doing some damage control now.
