UCLA coach Chip Kelly is pleased at what he’s seen from quarterback Devon Modster. Kelly had encouraging words about Modster as he attempts to become the next starting quarterback in Westwood.
“He’s done a nice job,” Kelly said at UCLA’s Saturday spring practice, per 247 Sports’ Tracy Pierson. “He’s picking things up, he’s a smart kind, he’s intelligent [and] he’s got a good base. He was obviously coached very well before we got here. He has a good knowledges of coverages.”
The Bruins conducted their ninth spring practice on Saturday. Modster is in the midst of a quarterback competition. He presumably has a leg up on the battle because his chief rival is incoming freshman Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
Kelly is tasked with trying to replace quarterback Josh Rosen. UCLA quarterback competition is one of the most intriguing storylines in the Pac-12 this coming season.
