Chip Kelly’s first recruiting class at UCLA was a good one, particularly considering he came on just before the early signing period in December. It indicated that Kelly could do great things with a full year to put a class together.
The Bruins don’t have any commits on board for 2019 but that could change in April. That’s when they’re set to host a number of top prospects who will be coming to Los Angeles for the Adidas 7-on-7 national championships.
Per BruinNationOnline, that group will include 4-star quarterback Grant Gunnell, the No. 2 pro-style passer in the country according to 247Sports. The 6-foot-6, 222-pound Houston prospect is ranked No. 53 overall and ninth-best among Texas players in the 2019 class.
Gunnell had been committed to Texas A&M but backed off that pledge on Feb. 13.
The 7-on-7 tournament ends April 9, with Gunnell scheduled to visit UCLA the next day. That same weekend the Bruins could also welcome several other notable prospects including 4-star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, the No. 46 player in the country; 4-star tight end Austin Stogner, ranked No. 102; and 4-star running back Isaiah Spiller, who is considered the second-best all-purpose back of 2019.
Gunnell, who has offers from 39 schools, is also scheduled to visit California and Arizona in April.
