It had been nearly 7 years since USC had a player taken in the NBA Draft. Then, in the span of a few picks, the Trojans saw 2 of their guys get picked on Thursday in Brooklyn.
After guard De’Anthony Melton went 46th to the Houston Rockets, forward Chimezie Metu followed at No. 49 as a second-round pick of the San Antonio Spurs.

It was the first time since 2009 the Trojans had 2 players selected in the same draft. That year it was DeMar DeRozan (ninth) and Taj Gibson (26th) both going in the first round.
The 6-foot-10 Metu averaged 15.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game as a junior last season for USC, leading the team in scoring and rebounding. For his career he averaged 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds and was a 53.3 percent shooter.
