Sports Illustrated released a list of the top 100 college football players heading into the 2018 season and USC running back Stephen Carr made the list, coming in at No. 53.
Carr, a sophomore, is considered to be one of the most dynamic running backs in the country. Though he played sparingly as a freshman, he was very impressive. He racked up 363 rushing yards, 188 receiving yards in 2017, scoring 3 TDs. He is expected to be a workhorse for the Trojans in 2018 as he replaces Ronald Jones III in the backfield.
Here is what Sports Illustrated’s Eric Single wrote about Carr:
With two touchdowns in the season opener against Western Michigan and 119 yards on 11 carries the next week against Stanford, Carr looked primed to match Ronald Jones carry-for-carry. But a sprained ankle put his sparkling freshman debut on ice as Jones put together a sparkling junior season, and back surgery has left Carr sidelined for most of offseason workouts. If he’s back to full speed by the fall, as coach Clay Helton expects, Carr will be the centerpiece of a talented but unproven offense trying to fill the holes left by Jones and Sam Darnold.
