In the midst of a quarterback competition, USC is closely evaluating the position this spring.
Trojans coaches are using spring practices to develop the quarterbacks with the hope that one will blossom into the clear starter by the end of training camp.
“We told them going in, this is an education spring,” USC quarterbacks coach Bryan Ellis said, per The Orange County Register’s Joey Kaufman. “Nobody’s going to win the job right now. It’s just kind of the way it is. They’re continuing to learn every day.”
Matt Fink and Jack Sears are the only two in contention to start at quarterback until incoming freshman J.T. Daniels arrives at training camp. USC coach Clay Helton has said that the competition could last until the week of the team’s first game.
USC will hold a practice this Saturday and at the end of the session the team will conduct a scrimmage. The scrimmage will be important for Fink and Sears. Whoever performs better will carry some momentum into training camp.
