It might not be an early signing, but Utah received an unofficial member of its Class of 2018 when 3-star defensive end Paul Maile offered his verbal commitment via Twitter on Saturday night.

The commitment is a big one for coach Kyle Whittingham’s local recruiting efforts. Maile, a Salt Lake City native, is the sixth-ranked player in the state of Utah as a defensive tackle and offensive guard for East High School. His loyalty to the Utes is, it seems, in his blood. Maile’s father, Henry Kaufusi, and uncles Jeff, Doug and Jason Kaufusi, have all played for the Utes.
He holds offers from Arizona, Cal, BYU and Wisconsin, along with a number of other notable programs. Maile plans to sign on National Signing Day in February.
