Kicker Joey Slye has been a steady presence for Virginia Tech football for the past three seasons. And as a senior, Slye will be chasing finally claiming the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the nation’s top kicker.
Slye has been named a semifinalist the past two seasons and was named to the preseason watch list on Wednesday. He’s one of only three kickers currently active to be named a semifinalist twice, sharing that fact with Auburn’s Daniel Carlson and Louisiana Tech’s Jonathan Barnes.
The Virginia Tech kicker also highlights the ACC kickers on the list, as he was joined by Florida State’s Ricky Aguayo, Miami’s Michael Badly, Wake Forest’s Mike Weaver and Louisville’s Blanton Creque.
The 20 semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 2, with a panel of former winners, media members, SIDs and more selecting the finalists. Then the same group will select the winner, which will be announced Dec. 7 during the College Football Awards Show.
