Wahoos247 originally reported Tuesday that Merrick would enroll at Virginia when his classes at Texas were complete. That report also stated that Merrick will walk on at Virginia.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound quarterback chose the Longhorns over offers from Colorado State and Nevada coming out of high school. He passed for 2,404 yards and 33 touchdowns as a senior at Irving (Texas) Cistercian Prep.
Merrick is the son of former Virginia wide receiver Nick Merrick.
