Virginia basketball fans learned more about their team’s nonconference schedule Wednesday.
The Daily Progress reports Virginia will face Vanderbilt on Thanksgiving at 4 p.m. in the NIT Season Tip-Off. The winner will face the victor of the Rhode Island-Seton Hall game the following day, Nov. 24, while the losers of both games also will play in a third-place game that day. The tournament will be at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The Cavaliers didn’t officially list this nonconference game, but also on Wednesday, VCU announced it would host the Cavaliers at the Siegel Center in Richmond on Nov. 17.
Here’s a quick look at Virginia’s nonconference schedule:
Nov. 13 – Austin Peay
Nov. 17 – at VCU
Nov. 19 – Monmouth
Nov. 23 – Vanderbilt
Nov. 24 – Seton Hall or Rhode Island
Nov. 27 – Wisconsin
Dec. 5 – at West Virginia
Virginia went 10-2 during nonconference play (excluding the NCAA Tournament) last season. One of those losses came at home against the West Virginia Mountaineers. The Cavaliers will face West Virginia on the road this season.
This will be Tony Bennett’s ninth season at Virginia. While the Cavaliers have won the ACC regular season and tournament championships under Bennett, his squad still is looking for its first Final Four bid. The Cavaliers haven’t been to the Final Four since 1984.
