As part of its rise under coach Chris Petersen, Washington has sought to become a major player on the national recruiting front. But the Huskies are still grabbing as many of the best local products as possible, as well.
One of those Seattle-area recruits, 3-star linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala, became Washington’s latest commitment for the Class of 2019 on Monday.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound Tuputala plays for Federal Way High School, the same school that produced receiver Chico McClatcher and defensive lineman Jared Pulu. He is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 20 prospect from Washington and the 52nd-best inside linebacker nationally.
Tuputala is the third in-state commitment for Washington in the 2019 class along with 4-star quarterback Dylan Morris and 3-star offensive lineman Nathaniel Kalepo. All told, the Huskies have nine pledges for 2019 in a class that ranks 26th overall and second in the Pac-12 behind Oregon, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
