The 76ers can’t seem to catch a break with their top prospects.
No. 1 pick and former Washington star Markelle Fultz exited early against the Warriors on Saturday with a left ankle injury. The 76ers announced Sunday that the rookie will be held out for the remainder of the summer league, but is expected to return to normal basketball activities in 1-2 weeks.
Fultz hurt his ankle in the second half and was helped to the locker room by teammates.
After the game, 76ers summer league coach Lloyd Pierce said Fultz had a sprained left ankle.
Fultz averaged 23.2 points and 5.9 assists per game in his only season at Washington. He suffered a knee injury that caused him to miss several games at the end of his freshman campaign. The 76ers traded up with the Boston Celtics in order to take him at the top of this year’s draft.
The explosive guard, however, gave Philly fans some relief with this tweet on Sunday.
